IAC Global Aviation Win New Support Contract at RNAS Yeovilton
Serco Defence, Science and Nuclear have awarded a significant support and maintenance contract to IAC Global Aviation. The 6 year contract is to support the GEM Mk 204/205 Engine Test Facilities and Oil Flow Test Rigs at Royal Navy Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton. RNAS Yeovilton is a large multi-role air station and one of the busiest military airfields in the UK.
This award reflects the aspiration of the ‘Future Support’ philosophy of the Ministry of Defence whereby test facilities are supported by a specialist first tier sub-contractor to the (Prime) contractor responsible for engine availability. Following competitive tendering, Serco has been awarded the Prime contract and has appointed IAC to ensure the availability of the test facilities. James Hitchcock, Account Executive within Serco Defence, Science and Nuclear said “IAC is the Design Authority for these facilities and has provided excellent support for in excess of twenty years directly to the Ministry of Defence. Serco, having been awarded the engine availability contract under the new Gem Future Support Arrangements, is delighted to have reached agreement with IAC to continue this long proven support as a specialist sub-contractor into Serco.”
A comprehensive support package has been agreed including technical support, scheduled and un-scheduled maintenance, calibration and the provision of spares and repair services. Once serviced or repaired, engines need to be tested thoroughly to ensure they are running correctly and are safe to be returned to the airframe for use in flight. The maintenance of a testing facility is therefore paramount, to ensure that tests are accurate and can be relied upon by service engineers.
As part of the contract, there is also the planned Mid Life Update (MLU) to the facilities’ Data Acquisition System. The present System, developed in-house by IAC, was installed when the facility was originally commissioned. The planned MLU will introduce the latest standard of the IAC Data Acquisition System, already fully proven in the field, and will feature all the latest enhancements, accuracy, reliability and future proofing benefits. Lee Sitton, IT Manager at IAC said “We are continuously developing our Aviation Data Acquisition System (ADAS) to calculate and monitor a wider range of variables. The latest version is not only more advanced, but will also keep the test facility up-to-date for the foreseeable future.”
Nigel Spencer, IAC Global Aviation In-Service Support Business Manager said “We are delighted to have reached agreement with Serco to provide this critical support until the planned out of service date of the engines in question. As the Design Authority and having previously supplied a similar support package directly to the Ministry of Defence we feel this award reflects the fact that IAC has a proven track record and can deliver the minimum risk solution.”
In addition to providing maintenance services, IAC Global Aviation is also a provider of turnkey test facilities for all types of aero engine including Data Acquisition Systems.
