Another Power Station Effectively Silenced by the IAC Power Division

Demand for IAC Silencers from power stations across Europe is growing – the latest requirement being for 8 vent silencers for a power station in Ireland.

Vent silencers attenuate the noise produced by the venting of pressurised gas to the atmosphere. One of the leading manufacturers Worldwide, IAC has supplied many power stations with such silencing solutions. As with all silencer applications, utilising advanced software, IAC’s skilled engineers optimised the solution both in terms of acoustic performance and budget.

Ireland's largest electricity generating station, is predominantly powered by coal. Its towering 218m chimneys can be seen for miles and are the tallest freestanding structures in Ireland.

IAC was asked to tender for the design, manufacture and supply of eight large replacement vent silencers. The silencers were approximately 6m long and 2m in diameter and were intended to replace the original silencers installed during the construction of the power station. Following initial site visits and technical negotiations, IAC was selected as the preferred supplier.

The silencers were manufactured in IAC Boet Stopson’s manufacturing facility in Lille, northern France and shipped to Ireland four months after the order was received. The silencers were designed to drop into the existing steelwork apertures to reduce installation time and cost. Each silencer had integral rain cowls to prevent ingression of rain and foreign objects. The silencers were commissioned successfully after installation.
