Winchester Rock School, Big Society and Big Business
 IAC have recently installed 2 music practice rooms for a local charity in Winnall, Winchester. Winnall Rock School (WRS) was set up in 2005 to provide music tuition for socially disadvantaged young people aged 10-18 in Winchester. WRS originally approached IAC back in 2007 for 2 music practice rooms. Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding and no permanent residence for the evening and holiday run school IAC were unable to help. The school now has a permanent base at the King Alfred Youth Activity Centre (KAYAC) in Winnall and again approached IAC for help. Despite still having no funding for professional music practice facilities, IAC have now installed two prototype rooms for the school to use on a permanent basis.
Paul Pounsford of Winnall Rock School said “These great facilities together with the grant from Youth Music will enable us to expand the programme we offer young people. Winchester City Council and Hampshire County Council have been fantastic supporters of the Rock School. However, we know that the level of financial support that they can provide will be significantly reduced as a result of the government cuts. Forging new partnerships, like our relationship with IAC and other youth groups, will be the key to our future.”
Jason Saunders, Business Manager for Architectural Products at IAC said “The new rock school is very close to the IAC factory and head office in Winchester and is a great opportunity to work with our local community. We are always looking at ways to improve our products and having a ‘live’ test bed less than a mile away from our offices is great. It’s a win win situation, the rock school get to use professional acoustically treated rooms and learn what it’s really like to practice in an industry-standard environment and we get to further improve our product range.”
