Overview

Ground Run-Up Enclosures, Blast Deflectors, Acoustic Barriers and Cabins

As a world leader in the diverse disciplines of aero-engine testing solutions, IAC provides standard and custom facilities for a wide range of civil and military aviation requirements.

IAC is among the world’s foremost suppliers of turnkey, automated aero-engine/aircraft test facilities. For over 50 years we have been designing and building: multi-engine test cells; hush houses; ground run-up pens; mobile, ‘propeller-on’ and APU test facilities. We supply to the military and commercial aircraft operators, engine manufacturers and overhaul agents worldwide.

Our complete service includes initial design through to manufacture and construction, installation, commissioning and in-service support as well as adapting and upgrading existing test cells. IAC also designs and builds state-of-the-art electronic data acquisition and processing systems for both new and existing test facilities.

Our airport products portfolio includes the following systems:

These products can be supplied ex works, or as a fully installed ‘turnkey’ package.

Furthermore, we can provide ongoing technical support, maintenance packages and even obsolescence management from our dedicated Product Support Department.

Jet Wake Barriers or Blast Deflectors

IAC produces a variety of barrier/deflector solutions that meet different requirements. We offer anything from a low level deflector/diffuser for small turboprop aircraft, to a high specification stainless steel turning vane barrier for reheated turbojets.

Ground Run-Up Enclosures, Blast Deflectors, Acoustic Barriers and CabinsOur barriers have been independently tested in a wind tunnel to certify the performance and are compliant with EU and US standards.

Our system is typically modular and hence can easily be extended, modified and relocated. Standard barriers can be secured to the apron concrete or supplied on ‘forklift-able’ concrete pallets.

For any installation we can advise economic solutions tailored to your location, budget, environment etc.

Options include FAA and CAA compliant orange/white panels through to ICAO/UKCAP approved lighting systems.

Ground Run-Up Enclosure or Ground Run-Up Pens

Ground Run-Up Enclosure or Ground Run-Up PensIAC Ground Run-Up Pens allow testing of installed engines on demand with impunity as they are highly effective in absorbing and deflecting high levels of sound. Designed with steel frames and modular steel panels they are rapidly assembled and require only simple foundations. Finite design by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), acoustic mapping and aerodynamic modelling ensure that the final location and configuration provide the greatest noise control and facility availability in most meteorological conditions.

Hush Houses

Hush HousesProviding the ultimate on wing engine testing solution, IAC Hush Houses are designed to accommodate a variety of aircraft. They are also capable of being used in a multi purpose role if required. Through the introduction of a removable engine test stand the facility can be adapted for use as an uninstalled engine test facility. Hush Houses provide a round-the-clock, all weather, aero-engine test capability.

We have supplied over 100 Hush Houses globally, covering all NATO approved aircraft.

Head of Stand Cabins

Head of Stand CabinsIAC’s Head of Stand Unit (the Fli-pod) is the world’s first, multi-purpose, acoustic ground operations environment. It enables faster and more efficient aircraft ‘turnaround’ by bringing all ground operations under one roof exactly where they are needed. The exceptional noise reduction given by the Fli-pod structure provides operational personnel with an acceptable environment even when deployed adjacent to aircraft stands and in close proximity to taxiing aircraft. When used as part of an integrated ground operations strategy, Fli-pods can help operators realise significant efficiency savings. Features of the Fli-pod include:

  • Portable working environment for airport ground staff – to speed up aircraft turnaround
  • High sound reduction allows deployment close to aircraft
  • Weatherproof fire resistant housing, air conditioning, workstations and cupboards, lighting, data com wiring, access control and lockable tool storage
  • Custom engineered or standard versions available

IAC’s Head of Stand Units are located under every aircraft stand at London Heathrow’s Terminal 5.

Acoustic Barriers/Walls

IAC produces a number of acoustic barriers and walls that offer differing levels of performance and aesthetic focus. These can range from simple absorptive barriers to an architectural, surface mounted façade that can ‘hide’ noisy machinery or provide acoustic isolation for a designated area or building.
