Aintree University Hospital Chooses State-of-the-art IAC Audiology Suite

IAC, European leader in audiology facilities, has supplied a suite comprising 4 large IAC audiology test rooms and 4 booths has been supplied to Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. One of the larger rooms was fitted out with VRA wiring and intercom systems suitable for paediatric testing.

The substantial project all started back in 2007 when IAC were called in by the NHS Project Design Manager, Arthur Savage. Initially IAC was asked to help him to develop the floor plan layouts but more importantly to help develop the room data sheets: these specify all design features such as M&E features, sizes, acoustic specifications etc.

Under normal tendering procedures such documents – which, when signed-off by the users, represent a formal document - are usually produced well before IAC is involved. Shaun Moore, Product Manager, Audiology said: “Working on the room data sheets gave us a fantastic opportunity to carry on forward once the contractor was appointed. However, head start or not, it was still, of course, a competitive forum. It was certainly our hard work and commitment that carried us through to the order.”

All 8 rooms were supplied with air conditioning – the 4 booths were supplied with a high wall a/c unit that heated/cooled the observation area and the booths themselves were fitted with fans/silencers/ductwork and so on that scavenged the conditioned air from the observation side. The 4 larger rooms were all supplied with a full split air conditioning package and high performance “link” doors.

The NHS Trust serves the residents of North Liverpool, South Sefton and Kirkby with the University Hospital being a large teaching hospital providing A&E as well as a wide range of acute and non-acute specialties such as audiology.
