IAC Install Mobile Audiology Testing Facility
 IAC has recently installed a mobile Audiology facility at the Passey Place Health Centre in Eltham, East London. Due to a proposed redevelopment of the entire site, the paediatric Audiology service based at the Centre needed to be re-housed. Various different measures were considered including moving to another site, but this was overturned due to being too far away from the existing location. Ultimately the service would be re-housed after the development so a medium term solution had to be put forward.
The existing Audiology department and Greenwich Primary Care Trust had been successfully working with IAC for a number of years on other projects and approached us once again to find a solution. IAC suggested utilising some unused space adjacent to the existing car park where a mobile facility could be placed and enable the service to continue at the same location.
The cost effective solution was completely manufactured off site and delivered by crane to a suitably prepared concrete plinth to house the 11 tonne facility. With an outer weatherproof skin, the temporary facility houses a 3.6 x 3.3m Audiology test booth and 2.2 x 4.0m observation room. The facility has been integrated into the existing building via a new covered walkway, providing seamless access from the existing waiting area.
The test room is of a double wall construction and sits on a floating floor for complete vibration and sound isolation. The internals of the mobile facility are constructed from Moduline® panels, IAC’s modular acoustic building system. The test room is fitted with double IAC STC51 acoustic doors and can be viewed from the observation room via an IAC Noise-Lock® acoustic window fitted with one way vision film. The test suite is decorated with fabric lined walls to enhance the patient experience and provide further sound absorption. Both rooms are ventilated by silenced air conditioning units.
The test room complies with HTM 2045, proving that despite being a cost effective mobile solution that the regulations for hearing testing can still be adhered to.
