IAC’s music practice rooms ‘rock’ at Winnall Rock School
IAC, the world’s leading noise control specialist, is loaning two Music Practice Rooms to Winnall Rock School, a popular music facility for young people in Winchester, UK. The loan is being made to support the facility as they move to a new permanent base at the King Alfred Youth Activity Centre (KAYAC) in the city.
Winnall Rock School was founded six years ago by local families who could not afford music lessons for their children. Now backed by funding from Winchester City Council, Hampshire County Council and Youth Music to help with running costs, it provides free weekly music lessons for 10–18 year olds. Led by gifted musician Chris Redmond the Rock School is supported by volunteers from across the county.
Ian Rich is Product Manager for Studios and Music Practice Rooms at IAC. “The music practice rooms we are loaning will provide a quality, acoustic environment for the young people practice, with the benefit of not disturbing the local residents. These superior acoustic environments which we manufacture here in Winchester are being used by many leading music colleges and conservatoires around the world. Our patented modular construction enables fast assembly on site, without cement and dust mess and with minimal disruption. The Winnall Rock School is an exciting project and we look forward to working closely with the team and wish them every success in the future.”
The Rock School Management Committee, headed by Paul Pounsford, is delighted at the prospect of the move in the next few months. ”We desperately need more space now and this studio will be a fantastic venue for young people who want to express themselves through music and learn new skills”, he said. “The Rock School will now be able to [ ] develop new music-based interests for Winchester’s young people without our music disturbing other users of the building or disrupting any of and the other weekly activities which take place there”.
Cllr John Cooper, Winchester’s Portfolio Holder for Communities said, “For the last two years the Rock School has relied on [ ] Winnall Primary School for rehearsals but space there is cramped. I have been looking for a way to resolve this. Because KAYAC also receives annual grant from the council and is at the heart of the Winnall Community it makes perfect sense to bring the two together”.
In design and manufacture at present, the rooms are scheduled for installation in the spring.
