IAC launches the NEW Fli-Pod at Passenger Terminal Expo
- bringing ground operations together at head of stand

IAC, world leaders in noise control and acoustic environments, announce the arrival of the Fli-Pod, believed to be heralding a step change in airport ground operations. The Fli-Pod is being launched today at Passenger Terminal Expo in Amsterdam.

In response to airlines’ desire to speed up aircraft turn around, a concept design by YRM Architects and IAC’s long-established capability to design and construct portable, sound-controlled people environments, the Fli-Pod combines innovation and engineering in a single package.

With costs of delays to an airline rising substantially and worldwide passenger volume set to double by 2025, airports worldwide are under pressure to improve efficiency and make better use of infrastructure.

Geoff Crowhurst is Acoustic Division Director at IAC: “The Fli-Pod is a world-first, multi-purpose, acoustic ground operations environment. It enables faster and more efficient aircraft ‘turn around’ by bringing all ground operations under one roof closer to where they are needed. The exceptional noise reduction provided by the Fli-Pod structure provides an acceptable people environment even when deployed adjacent to aircraft stands and in close proximity to taxiing aircraft. This will be of huge benefit to many airlines around the world keen to increase efficiency.”

Positioned at head of stands and easily re-located, Fli-Pod users now have all functions in one place, with full access to all airline and ground handling systems – many admin functions are streamlined and risk of passenger delays are significantly reduced. With air-side swipe-card access, security is assured.

Manufactured at IAC’s European HQ in Winchester, each Fli-Pod is delivered ready for use, pre-wired for network data and comms. Each unit is designed to accommodate a mains service, laptops and fixed computers.

Fully acoustically-insulated, robust and weatherproof, the accommodation has high performance, fire-rated, acoustic doors and windows, air conditioning and a PIR, energy efficient lighting system. The interior is ergonomically-designed with waist-height work stations, mounting rails for computer screens, concealed cabling, wear-resistant wall finishes and rubber flooring – which are all environmentally-compliant.

Lockable tool storage for maintenance teams is provided on the exterior of each Fli-Pod, as are the optional steel access steps and platform which are fully compliant with internationally recognised Building Regulations.

Built onto an integral structural base frame each Fli-Pod is factory built and then road-transported and positioned by forklift truck. With height adjusting legs the Fli-Pod are easily adapted to overcome uneven terrain.

A standard Fli-Pod format has been developed for smaller airports while a bespoke design and build service is available where larger numbers are required.
