REFURBISHES LARGE TEST FACILITIES FOR KUWAIT AIR FORCE

Aviation has refurbished two 20-year-old hush houses for the Kuwait Air
Force protecting the local environment from noise pollution generated
by engine testing. The buildings accommodate the Air Force’s F/A-18
fighter aircraft and the Hawk Trainer.
As well as overhauling the thrust stands and engine trolleys,
the control rooms underwent a refit and the fuel management and compressed
air systems were overhauled.
Phil Little, Project Manager, co-ordinated the projects
for the US government’s NAVAIR acting for the KAF. "Engine
testing has really moved on considerably since they were built in 1993
and so the upgrades will bring them up to today’s spec."
IAC Aviation also upgraded the buildings’ fabric:
repairing and servicing the enormous 7m x 15m aircraft entry acoustic
doors; upgrading the lighting and interior finish; and both fire systems
– water deluge and gas. The results? Two 21st-century, world-class
hush houses.
