SHIPSHAPE
SOUND ATTENUATION FOR SINGAPORE NAVY
It’s
all quiet on board a Republic of Singapore Navy frigate now thanks to
an IAC noise attenuation solution for the onboard power generators.
The contract was won by IAC’s European subsidiary
IAC Boet Stopson, but the specialist nature of the attenuators required
they be manufactured at the Group Headquarters in Winchester, UK.
The acoustic louvres and transition sections to be fitted
on the intake and discharge for the ondeck power generators were manufactured
in aluminium. This satisfied maximum weight specifications and provided
resistance to saltwater corrosion. Required to withstand heavy weather
and up to 80g shockloading dependent on the ship’s orientation,
the equipment designs were fully tested in IAC’s aeroacoustic laboratories.
Following manufacture in Winchester, the products were then transported
to Singapore for onboard installation.
Michel Torres, Project
Manager, at IAC Boet Stopson: "We have an agreement for a further
5 sets subject to satisfactory sea trials with the prototype installation.
This specification for this type of attenuation solution is a particularly
demanding and IAC is one of just a few companies in Europe with the technological
capability." The additional ships will bring the total contractual
value to in excess of €250,000.
IAC has also supplied noise control equipment to the Canadian,
Danish, UK, Portuguese, German and Indian Navies.
