US Capitol Visitors Centre In Washington Gets The IAC Doors Treatment
IAC America recently installed over forty (40) Noise-Lock® doors in The House and The Senate expansion facilities in an area that is completely below ground.
The IAC Noise-Lock® Doors were specially engineered to accommodate a highly decorative and sophisticated wood cladding. The cladding was fixed to the doors on location so that it would not interfere with the doors’ operation. These doors also had special finishes on all of the factory-installed builders’ hardware. All this created a need for special attention to handling and installation to preserve the integrity of the finished product.
In addition, IAC America provided and installed its new Trackwall® NIC Series 854, acoustically rated STC 64, NIC 60 and NNIC 64. The panels of this acoustic partition wall are 8” thick and are located in a lower level adjacent to the production studios.
The construction project was a huge undertaking that started with the ground breaking in August of 2002 followed by a year for the excavations. Construction of the Centre began in 2003. Inclusion of the IAC products took place over a two-year period working closely with the global design practice RTKL of Washington DC who also designed the building envelope. The interior general contractor was Grunley Construction. The Centre is scheduled to be finished early 2008.
