IAC CONTROLS NOISE AT HEATHROW’S TERMINAL 5

IAC’s Gary Dawson and Mike Jackson have secured a £1/4M contract for air conditioning noise attenuation from the British Airports Authority, for London Heathrow’s Terminal 5. The contract is also growing as the Terminal takes shape. IAC’s technical expertise and previous supply history with the airport contractors helped us secure the contract.

Europe's biggest construction project, Terminal 5 has a total floor space equivalent to 50 football pitches which means there is a lot of air conditioning plant to silence! We are supplying acoustic panels and louvres around the plant rooms, and HVAC attenuators for systems serving the main concourses. These are positioned in ‘chimneys’ which carry conditioned air to the main public areas.

BMW BENEFITS FROM IAC TECHNOLOGY

IAC is this month completing projects worth almost 1m Euros for the supply of Anechoic Testing Chambers to two BMW manufacturing plants in Germany. Both contracts are via Schenck GmbH.

Ten Roller Testing Stands have been designed, manufactured and installed at BMW’s München and Leipzig plants - along with electrically-operated, high-speed roller shutter doors, integral steel construction and electrical lighting systems. Panel work has been powder painted on the outside in BMW’s choice of colours and each facility has an IAC acoustic, panoramic viewing window with double-glazed safety glass.

At the Leipzig plant IAC has also fitted a roof-mounted ventilation and heating system incorporating heat recovery technology. Each of the five stands has an approximate total air volume of 150,000m3/h supply and return air. A supplementary acoustic barrier wall has been fitted around ventilation system to eliminate plant-generated noise.

Congratulations go to Heinz Muller and his team at IAC in Germany!

ROYAL KUWAIT AIR FORCE ORDERS $1.5M HUSH HOUSE REFURB

IAC’s global Aviation Division has won a $1.5M order for the refurbishment of two Kuwait Air Force Hush Houses that IAC supplied in the ‘90s. The facilities provide all-weather engine-test facilities for aircraft. The contract also has an option a long-term In Service Support Package that is likely to double the contract value.

IAC AVIATION UPGRADES RAF’S HELICOPTER ENGINE TEST HOUSE

IAC Aviation is carrying out a mid-life upgrade of the Helicopter Universal Engine Test House facility at RAF Odiham, home to the UK's largest Boeing Chinook helicopter fleets.

New higher power and higher efficiency T55 engine versions have made the upgrade necessary and IAC will also supply an Automatic Data Acquisition System that captures and analyses the information gathered during engine testing.

To minimise downtime, a substantial amount of the work will be completed at IAC’s manufacturing site prior to decommissioning the existing facility. When it comes to engine testing you could say 'engine testing 'r' us'. IAC has been supporting the MoD's helicopter engine test facilities for nearly 15 years. A key attraction is our ability to react quickly and flexibly to changes in a customer’s circumstances. Commissioning is scheduled for July 2004.

MOBILE TEST FACILITY FOR HELICOPTER ENGINES SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHED

IAC’s world–first Mobile Test Facility (MTF) for helicopter engines was launched at Aerospace Testing 2004 in Hamburg. Interest was strong and a number of tenders are now in progress for air forces and navies in Europe and the Far East. The MTF is also already giving front-line support having been commissioned at RAF Benson in Oxfordshire and RNAS Culdrose in Cornwall.

Allowing engine testing on location in a war theatre, the MTF saves valuable time and manpower resources. It is completely self sufficient with on-board power generation and can operate anywhere, anytime. It was developed for the MoD to support the new RTM322 helicopter engine and additional MTF versions now offer full performance testing and accommodate a wide variety of other engine types. Military and commercial helicopter operators stand to benefit.

£45k DOORS OPEN AT LONDON’S CITY UNIVERSITY

Acoustic doors worth £45K are to be supplied to the School of Social & Human Studies at the City University in London. The order is for the supply of 23 STC-47 single and double doors.

A world leader in acoustic doors, IAC has supplied over 100,000 worldwide since 1949 and our reputation is second-to-none. Over the past 3 years sales have doubled to £1million. To maintain our quality and boost output, substantial investment has been made into new linishing technology. Hand grinding and finishing is now performed by new machinery that copes with doors up to 5 meters long, in 20% of the time formerly needed.

MAJOR AUDIOMETRIC ORDER FROM LEADING NORWAY HOSPITAL

IAC GmbH in Germany has secured orders worth nearly 1/2M Euros for audiometric testing facilities from Trondheim University Hospital in Norway.

The orders, for 6 Audiometric Rooms and 4 hearing test cabins, were won against stiff European competition in particular from Sweden and Germany.

The Audiometric Rooms meet all the international standards concerning structure-borne and air-borne noise levels and will be fully equipped by IAC GmbH with all lighting, special carpeting and decorative features as well as silenced ventilation.

AUDIOMETRIC SUITE FOR CHILDREN AT LEADING SOUTH WEST HOSPITAL

IAC has converted an existing ward facility at North Devon Healthcare Trust to provide a dedicated paediatric audiology department. The audiology department is located in an area of high ambient noise so effective sound attenuation was a high priority and full air conditioning means the three audiology rooms will be able to be used all year round.

The joint planning process with NHS managers and the 13 clinicians took 2 years followed by just 12 weeks to manufacture and a further 4 weeks for the on-site build. Rob Shaddick, Trust Project Manager: “Some of the other companies we contacted were not prepared to provide a guarantee to the sound proofing ability of the windows and sinks. We had had previous IAC installations and have been very happy with these so I had every confidence that everything would all be of a high standard. IAC is justifiably the leading installation firm and popular with audiology departments nation-wide.”

As well as audiology rooms IAC also manufactures standard booths and mobile screening units. For more information contact Jason Saunders on jasons@iacl.co.uk

IAC’S SAUDI PARTNER WINS TV STUDIO CONTRACT

Our Middle East Licencee and Regional Distributor, ATAI, located in Jubail in Saudi Arabia have successfully completed the subcontract manufacturing of a large TV Studio project for the Al-Jazeera television station in Doha, Qatar.

IAC’s Acoustic Division Director, Geoff Crowhurst and team visited ATAI in May for a factory tour, technical training for ATAI staff and visits to customers in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, Doha Qatar, Dubai and Abu Dhabi UAE.

Manufacturing quality at ATAI is impressive and they are now manufacturing IAC Quiet Duct silencers, conic silencers, packless silencers, Noishield louvres and Noishield regular panels.
