POWER DIVISION SECURES £3M CONTRACT WITH GE IN AUSTRIA

The Austrian industrial engine supplier GE Jenbacher (a General Electric subsidiary) has selected IAC Boët Stopson as a partner to supply exhaust silencers. The initial contract is for two and a half years and is expected to generate around £3M of business over the period.

“To avoid transport costs rendering these large products uncompetitive for European customers, these are being manufactured by our partners in Eastern Europe,” says Daniel Joly who heads up the division in Lille, northern France: “This order is a fantastic coup and takes us to the top of the European rankings in the sector.”

The IAC Boet Stopson exhaust silencer range is now considered a major player in the UK market as well, from market entry just 15 months ago. The silencers, manufactured at our manufacturing facility in Lille, are available from stock in just 7 days in the UK. For more information contact Malcolm Hewitt, Sales Manager on 01206 878202.

  NEW ‘GREEN’ VOICE-OVER BOOTH LAUNCHED

Our NEW ‘green’ Voice-Over Booth was launched at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in September, Europe’s leading show for the sector.

Our modular-build Booth is already in use by hundreds of broadcasters the world over, with conventional fibreglass panel infill. Now we are offering the Booth with the green infill option as an alternative: the post-industrial organic fibre brings many green benefits with no compromise to acoustic performance.

To boost our stand traffic a mime artist from the Amsterdam Theatre School entertained show visitors. His branded boiler suit read ‘Broadcasting studios - top acoustic performance that speaks for itself’: light relief in the frenetic show environment!

NEW ‘GREEN’ SILENCER SHOWCASED BY WORLD’S TOP ARCHITECTURAL INSTITUTE

What we believe to be Europe’s first ‘green’ silencer range for HVAC applications was launched by our Building Services team at the 100% Detail show in London. It was short-listed for this year’s Royal Institute of British Architects’ Innovation Award.

Developed at our R&D facility in New York, USA, the ‘green’ infill used within the attenuators delivers a range of ‘green’ benefits without compromising acoustic performance: reduced energy use in manufacture; mostly recycled content; bio-degradable; non-toxic and fire-, fungi-, and corrosion resistant. It is sourced in the UK.

WORLD’S TOP HEARING RESEARCH UNIVERSITY CHOOSES IAC

Our Medical and Life Sciences division has built one of the world’s most sophisticated hearing research facilities for the University of London’s Institute of Laryncology in London.

Occupying the entire first floor of a purpose-built, ‘quiet’ 5-storey building, the facility comprises an anechoic chamber and a suite of five audiometric rooms whose specification was the most demanding ever undertaken in our 56-year history. All the five research rooms are triple-skinned with a Nr measuring down to –10dBA, which is lower than the normal hearing threshold. We also built a floating floor the whole width of the building for the floor above the suite to ensure 100% sound isolation.

“The noise levels specified in this facility were so low that they had to be mathematically calculated as they couldn’t be physically measured,” says Jason Saunders, Business Manager, “In order to achieve the Nr required on that one floor, we had to work with the architects on the design of the whole building right from the drawing board stage.”

IAC AVIATION REFURBISHES LARGE TEST FACILITIES FOR KUWAIT AIR FORCE

IAC Aviation has refurbished two 20-year-old hush houses for the Kuwait Air Force protecting the local environment from noise pollution generated by engine testing. The buildings accommodate the Air Force’s F/A-18 fighter aircraft and the Hawk Trainer.

As well as overhauling the thrust stands and engine trolleys, the control rooms underwent a refit and the fuel management and compressed air systems were overhauled.

Phil Little, Project Manager, co-ordinated the projects for the US government’s NAVAIR acting for the KAF. "Engine testing has really moved on considerably since they were built in 1993 and so the upgrades will bring them up to today’s spec."

IAC Aviation also upgraded the buildings’ fabric: repairing and servicing the enormous 7m x 15m aircraft entry acoustic doors; upgrading the lighting and interior finish; and both fire systems – water deluge and gas. The results? Two 21st-century, world-class hush houses.
