NEW DOORS APPLAUDED AT CARNEGIE HALL

Keeping “city” noise out of a space is always a challenge, but when the building at hand is one of the world’s most renowned concert halls, located on one of the busiest blocks in NYC, the task can be daunting at best. For IAC America, however, meeting the challenge was just another day’s work.

“The challenges were multi-fold,” said Ken DeLasho, vice-president, sales and marketing, IAC America. “In addition to meeting very stringent criteria for noise reduction, we had to meet the City’s strict building codes, provide additional security, and design and manufacture doors that conformed to the architect’s exacting design specs.” And, according to Steven C. Brody, Operations Coordinator, Carnegie Hall, “all challenges were met.”

At the street level, where a hallway helped buffer noise, IAC installed STC-53 doors. For the upper balcony level, where the doors were the only barrier between the auditorium and Seventh Avenue’s noise, IAC provided the STC-64 Noise-Lock® door and frame assemblies with three sets of acoustic seals. All doors were manufactured from prime painted steel and clad with architecturally coordinated wood panels. A #10 B bronze finish on the IAC cam-lift hinges and the latching hardware completed the aesthetic appearance.

IAC’s Noise-Lock® doors have the industry’s highest STC ratings. They are manufactured in a range of materials including wood veneer, vision glass, flush, and architectural. They are available in single, double, bi-fold, tri-fold, sliding, and swinging models. All doors and frames are factory assembled and tested, and are mechanically adjusted for ease of installation and guaranteed in-field performance.

IAC is a world leader in the manufacture of acoustical products and systems. Since its founding in 1949, the company has been recognized for both innovative solutions to unusual problems and the creation of new or improved noise control and acoustical conditioning products. IAC’s Aero/Acoustic Laboratory provides the quality control testing necessary to ensure the accuracy of acoustical, aerodynamic, and mechanical ratings. The laboratory is accredited for nine acoustical testing standards under the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP). IAC America is headquartered in the Bronx, NY. It has corporate facilities in England, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Denmark and maintains representation in all principal cities, as well as licensee and joint-venture relationships in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and other international locations.
