Honeywell gives IAC’s Helicopter Engine Test Facility cross-calibration approval

Bronx, NY (December 15) --IAC Aviation’s Test Facility at RAF Odiham’s Helicopter Universal Engine Test House (HUETH) in the UK has received cross-calibration approval from helicopter engine manufacturer Honeywell.

RAF Odiham is home to the UK's largest Boeing Chinook helicopter fleets and IAC undertook a Mid-Life Upgrade of the facility in 2002 and has since delivered on a range of additional improvements and requirements.

The IAC Aviation Test Facility is capable of full performance testing, to the latest standards, of the higher power T55-714A engine variant that powers the Chinook helicopter. The T55, at approximately 5000 shp, is one of the highest power engines in the helicopter fleet. The IAC Aviation Test Facility is also approved for the long serving T55-A-712F engine.

‘Final Acceptance’ by the UK Ministry of Defence is anticipated by Christmas. Nick Smith, Business Manager for IAC Aviation in the UK commented: “Even as a helicopter engine test facility specialist, IAC Aviation is extremely proud to have achieved cross-calibration for one of the most powerful helicopter engines in the world, and in a demountable facility. Furthermore, the provision of an IAC Aviation Automatic Data-Acquisition System has speeded up the testing, allowing reduced engine turn-around times, reduced fuel consumption during testing and reduced hours on the bed. The result is a more efficient test operation. The MoD’s investment in this capability will be returned over and over in the long term, both operationally and financially.”

IAC Aviation has been supplying and supporting aircraft and engine test facilities worldwide for over 50 years and the UK MoD's helicopter engine test facilities for nearly 20 years. This upgrade at RAF Odiham is typical of IAC Aviation's ability to be able to react to a change in customer circumstances. With all test bed upgrades we incorporate additional capacity and flexibility for future upgrades into the work package.
