IAC Noise-Lock Vision Wall at the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Museum
Bronx, NY (June 25)--The IAC Noise-Lock VisionWall Window has made a significant contribution to a very successful project at the NASCAR Hall of Fame & Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina.
This project called for a ‘L’-shaped STC 53 exterior acoustical window on a nine-degree slope. NASCAR Hall of Fame representatives wanted to create a ground floor space where patrons waiting to enter the museum could see live broadcasts and performances.
This project posed a number of engineering and acoustical challenges for IAC America’s VisionWall product.
The ‘L’-shaped window’s overall height was ten feet, with its long leg measuring thirty-two feet and the short leg, twenty-seven feet. The long leg was then sub-divided into six modules and the short leg, into five. The challenges were that the architect did not want any horizontal mullions but only single vertical mullions and, being an exterior application, the window would also have to withstand wind loads of 85mph.
To tackle the challenge we drew on the help of IAC’s NVLAP accredited Research and Development Laboratory, the glass vendor, our Manufacturing Division, and expertise from various Project Managers. We drew up a design to modify our VisionWall product to deliver the window required, and with the desired acoustic rating.
This was achieved by reinforcing the vertical mullions and then ensuring that the special composition of the glass, coupled with its thickness, would enable it to withstand these wind and weight loads. The window was manufactured such that it was stick built in the field under our supervision.
IAC was able to meet the engineering and acoustical challenge of this project utilizing our VisionWall product.
