IAC America promotes acoustical engineering careers
Bronx, NY (April 24) -- The IAC Group, keen to promote careers in acoustical engineering, has hosted a student visit to our Aero-Acoustic Laboratory in New York.
IAC America’s Aero-Acoustic Laboratory played host to a visit by a group of acoustical engineering students yesterday. Dr James Abbott, Director of the Cooper Union Audio Lab brought his students along to get some real world exposure to noise control products, testing and manufacturing. While with us they were able to observe how IAC tests our noise control products in accordance with ASTM and ISO standards.
Brian Duffy, IAC America’s President, said: “As a world-leading company, we are keen to promote acoustical engineering both sides of the Atlantic, as a rewarding and satisfying career option for young people. Who knows, perhaps some of these students may one day be part of the next generation of engineers at IAC?”
The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, established in 1859, is among the America’s oldest and most distinguished institutions of higher learning. The college, the legacy of Peter Cooper, occupies a special place in the history of American education. It is the only private, full-scholarship college in the United States dedicated exclusively to preparing students for the professions of art, architecture and engineering.
Across the pond, IAC UK is corporate sponsor of the UK Institute of Acoustics’ biennial ‘Young Persons’ Award for Innovation in Acoustical Engineering’. Now running for the second time, this year’s prize will be awarded in October by Trevor Baylis OBE, world-acclaimed inventor of the wind-up radio. Brian Quarendon, CEO and Group President said: “As a leading acoustics company world wide, we have a corporate responsibility to encourage young people into the industry. Celebrating young people’s ideas is a great way to do this and we are looking forward to introducing Trevor Baylis to some of the burgeoning European talent the industry has to offer.”
