IAC’s new louver design quiets resort generating station
Bronx, NY (December 17) --IAC America has developed a new louver design which pleases architects, mechanical engineers and acoustical consultants.
Historically, new products have been introduced by IAC as a result of a need expressed by an architect, engineer or consultant for a product with unattainable performance fabricated using unobtainable materials!
This was our latest challenge: provide a 216 inch (5486 mm) high, 24” (610 mm) deep powder-coated aluminum acoustic louver with a TL of 11 dB at 125 Hz and a pressure drop of 0.22 in wc (55 Pa) at 525 ft/min (2.67 m/sec). This was needed for a power station located near an exclusive resort. IAC America’s engineering and manufacturing teams went to work.
The design of this new louver is based on IAC’s successful LFS Q-Duct® design using a bell mouth entrance/exit and increased baffle depth. It was tested and refined in IAC’s aero-acoustic laboratory until the required combination of acoustic and aerodynamic performance was achieved.
To maintain the aerodynamic shape of the louver blades, and because the blades had to be powder coated before the insertion of acoustic fill, IAC’s manufacturing engineers developed a novel NC fabricated, skinned, open-rib design - similar to that of an aircraft wing.
The final results satisfied not only the aesthetic requirements of the architect, and the aerodynamic requirements of the mechanical engineer but also the noise reduction requirements of the acoustical consultant. Mission accomplished!
