Juvenile Detention Center benefits from new 'Unitone' wall panels

Bronx, NY (August 26)--IAC’s new Unitone Security Absorption Panels are creating a quieter and safer environment at Clermont County Juvenile Detention Centre (CCJDC) in Ohio.

CCJDC chose IAC to help address noise concerns throughout the Detention Center. The dayrooms, corridors, recreation area and the gymnasium were all very harshly reverberant which was making instruction, education and discipline difficult and frustrating for all concerned.

The requirement was for an abuse-resistant wall panel with excellent absorptive characteristics that could quickly and efficiently be installed with limited interruption to the daily activities of the residents, all while maintaining a secure environment.

A co-ordinated effort between Ketchum & Walton (IAC Technical Representative), architects Michael Schuster Associates, and the contractor OK Interiors and our Industrial/Acoustic Treatments Division led to the development of the perfect solution – the IAC Unitone Security Absorption Panel.

Unitone Panels have a NRC of .95 and are abuse-resistant. Dramatically reducing reflective noise and reverberation time they were developed for use both within CCJDC’s minimum and maximum secure areas.

IAC supplied 565 Unitone Security Panels in various sizes which were shipped and staged so as not to create a hazard for the inmates or employees and then strategically placed so as not to interfere with cameras, sprinklers, windows or speakers. The entire project from fabrication to installation was completed within 45 days after receipt of approval drawings and acceptance of the implementation strategy.

Phil Hooser, Product Manager at IAC said: “We’ve worked to develop this Unitone solution to suit applications not only in new-build but also for retrofit in existing correctional facilities. This is a noise abatement system which, we are confident, can satisfy the unique requirements of architects, engineers and administrators everywhere and importantly, helps satisfy the sector’s accreditation standards. This initial project was undertaken as a ‘pilot’ program for additional locations with similar needs. We look forward to working with Clermont County on the next three installations.”
