Noiselock doors and windows for new WNYC Station studios
Bronx, NY (October 9) -- WNYC, America’s flagship National Public Radio station, recently moved out of their previous home of 50 years. They turned to IAC and QuietStar Industries for acoustic Noise-Lock® doors and windows for their new studios.
Relocating a radio station in the digital age necessitates vision and funding. Fortunately WNYC has both. Turning the 7th, 8th and 9th floors of a Tribeca warehouse into a state-of-the art broadcast center meant gutting the floors, pouring isolated slabs and building from the inside out. To broadcast and record the award-winning programs, they needed studios, edit rooms, production rooms and more. To get natural light right into the center of the floors and to improve indoor environmental quality, they needed lots of windows.
In the end, they used 40 Noise-Lock® STC 51 doors and 40 STC 57 Noise-Lock® windows. Some of the windows were double-sloped and as wide as 11 feet with a frame depth of 18 inches.
QuietStar Industries was on site during construction, and developed a strong relationship with the constructors, the architects and the client. The result is a beautiful studio with IAC America products at every corner. The reward? Another order for 13 more Noise-Lock® windows and 4 more doors for the first ever, ground floor performance space, where New York passers-by can see, from the sidewalk, on-going live broadcasts, through, of course, IAC windows. The performance center is due to open in 2009.
IAC…making the world a quieter place!
