IAC NOISE-LOCK COMPONENTS ARE TOP OF THE CHARTS AT KMA MUSIC
An IAC Noise-Lock Sound Control Door has been installed at KMA Music Studios in the world famous Brill Building on Broadway, home to many music publishers.
Installed because of its guaranteed in-field noise reduction, the challenge for the door design was the need for full-glass vision panels and double-leaf configurations.
“Our Engineering and Research teams developed this full glass assembly with excellent noise reduction, particularly at the low end which is so important in studios today.” said Craig D’Anna, Business Manager for the Architectural Group at IAC America. “More than half of the door is glass with no compromise to the acoustic isolation of the assembly.” IAC is the only company with STC 55 full-glass assembly, laboratory certified and field proven in installations worldwide.
Noise-Lock Doors are fully factory assembled and include leaf, frame, seals, hinges, glass, glazing, locks and closers. The assembly is pre-hung and factory tested before shipment.
The door assemblies are easily installed during the finish phase of construction using the IAC patented split frame design. Hinges are cam-lift and the bottom seal is passive and Teflon coated for ease of operation. The Noise-Lock Architectural line is available with UL10C fire rating in single, double and multi-leaf configurations.
IAC Noise-Lock® windows are also fully factory-assembled and include glass, glazing and stops, and factory tested. Windows are available in sloped configurations with high in-field noise reduction.

IAC’S NOISHEILD BARRIER SYSTEM GETS A GOLD STAR!
IAC recently completed the installation of an IAC FS Noishield Barrier System at the NSTAR Transformer Substation in Wellfleet, Massachusetts. The transformers in this substation were operating a noise level that exceeded the regulating noise ordinance.
NSTAR is the largest mass-based, investor-owned electric and gas utility in the U.S.. NSTAR transmits and delivers electric and gas to 1.1 million electricity customers in 81 communities and to nearly 300,000 gas customers.
Phil Hooser is our Product Manager for Barriers: “We undertook all the design, engineering, and fabrication of the Barrier Panels for this substantial project and completed the whole job within eight weeks of receiving the order. That included all the structural calculations, approval drawings, and fabrication of the structural steel. We worked very hard to meet all their requirements in terms of specification and timescale.”
IAC supplied 159 FS Noishield panels - 5 inches thick, 24 inches high (on center) and of various lengths up to 20 feet. IAC panels are constructed of cold-rolled A-60 steel, fabricated using 14 gauge materials for the solid side, and 20 gauge materials for the perforated side of the panel. Fill materials used are fiberglass, non-corrosive, resistant to attack by fungus, fire-resistant, vermin-proof and non-hygroscopic. The fill material is also free draining, self-supporting and retains physical and sound absorptive characteristics after long-term exposure to the elements. All materials have a Class A fire rating.
On completion of the project, Wellfleet’s Health and Conservation Department required a noise evaluation of the site; it clearly demonstrated compliance with 310 CMF 7.10 and Wellfleet Board of Health closed the case. A spokesperson commented: “It has been a pleasure working with you on this very complex issue. We are forever grateful for IAC’s commitment to this project and strict adherence to established timelines set by the Wellfleet Board of Health. The residents in the area have also expressed satisfaction with the success of the sound mitigations. Thank you for all of your efforts.”
Thanks to IAC technical representative Doug Harvey of Harvey Associates and the IAC Acoustic Treatments team for a job well done!

IAC MODULAR STUDIOS OFFER KMA MUSIC A PERFECT SOLUTION
IAC America has installed a custom modular acoustic studio for world-renowned KMA Music in New York. This is the second recent contract with KMA Music, having also supplied Noiselock acoustic doors to the company (see above).
KMA is located in the Brill Building with amazing views of Times Square - widely held to be the ‘Center of the Universe’. KMA Music aims to offer a brilliant recording experience for every genre.
For this new studio, the level of sound isolation was going to be a key factor in its success, while space was very limited. The challenge was to optimize the recording area space while maintaining the highest level of noise isolation between rooms. It was a perfect candidate for IAC’s AccuTone2 Broadcast Series Rooms and Noise-Lock components.
IAC provided lightweight modular Broadcast Series rooms with NIC 70 isolation while using two IAC 4 inch AccuTone2 panels.
Fran Manzella of studio designers, FM Design - after working with Michael Kissel at KMA Music Studios - had the following to say about this unique studio, “The Writers Studio, as we call it, is Michael’s brainchild. He envisioned a cooperative arrangement with young writer/producers to enable them to realize their creative projects within a world-class stimulating environment.”
The broadcast and recording industries have long recognized the design and financial benefits of modular studios. Now, IAC America’s AccuTone2 Broadcast Series newest family of modular sound-conditioned environments adds the look and feel of traditional architecture to sound control rooms and suites that can be custom designed for any application. And, they are engineered for high in-field noise reduction, greater comfort, and enhanced performance.

AES SHOW IS IAC’S BEST YET – BOOSTED BY FIRST-CLASS TECHNICAL TOUR
“The turn-out at the Audio Engineering Society Convention was the best that we have seen in years,” said Craig D’Anna, Business Manager of the IAC Architectural team, following our most successful Show to date.
We had far more visitors to our stand than in previous years, and all in relevant roles.
The 127th AES Convention took place at the Jacob Javits Center in New York in October. The largest gathering of audio professionals and enthusiasts on the globe, it attracts delegates from over 100 countries worldwide.
Everyone from consultants, studio designers and end-users at the Show was inquiring about IAC products and applications. Compared with previous years there was a greater interest in Studio Construction especially in Modular Construction.
The interest was also boosted by offering a IAC Technical Tour of our facility on the Saturday afternoon. Our Shop, Lab and Office crew demonstrated our shop capabilities, and in the lab performed TL demonstrations, as well as showcasing our AccuTone2 Modular Studios.
It was our Studios demonstration that proved the highlight of the Tour: we demonstrated a Control Room and a Live Room environment. Our modular rooms were a real show stopper - special thanks go to WSDG & RPG, who helped outfit the rooms with speakers, CD player and acoustic treatments. We set up two adjoining single-wall rooms and were able to achieve noise isolation of NIC 70 from room to room and NIC 50 from room to corridor. There were also visual displays set up in both rooms to show the relative noise-levels. After a quick round-up from Ken DeLasho we headed to another IAC-sponsored event at KMA Studios in downtown Manhattan.
KMA Studios already have an IAC modular studio, fitted a couple of years ago. It was at this studio that FM Designs (the studio designer), Quietstar (NY technical sales rep) and IAC, co-sponsored a corporate entertainment event to stimulate new business. We each invited our own guests and brought together our industry peers from construction, design and from among end users, to demonstrate the benefits of our AccuTone2 Modular Studios. It was hugely successful.
Louis Manno, Chairman of the AES Technical Tours, stated in a letter to Craig D’Anna, “My heartiest congratulations to you and your associates for making possible one of the best Technical Tour slates in the sixty-one year history of the Audio Engineering Society.” He further stated: “On behalf of the 127th Audio Engineering Society’s convention committee, may I express our deep gratitude for the integral part you played in making the Tech Tours such a success, and their visit to New York City a memory many will cherish for years to come.”
