Welcome to our latest e-bulletin
More often then not we focus on our short comings, what’s wrong, what didn’t go right. I believe that this is well intentioned in an effort to improve our competitive position. However, by doing so we miss the energy of success, the accomplishments, and the ‘win’.
I encourage all of you to enjoy the stories that follow and focus on your successes, it is contagious!
Many thanks to our reps, customers and consultants for their continued hard work and contributions in helping IAC, Making the World a Quieter Place!
The balance of the year looks good and is filled with plenty of opportunity. IAC America is building its Engineering and Design staff in an effort to support our delivered and installed turnkey projects across all of our business units including Access Systems, Silencer Systems and Architectural Plan and Specification.
Please visit our new and improved website complete with detail drawings and specifications for most of our products and services.

IAC MUSIC PRACTICE ROOM IS ANSWER TO STRESS SAYS MCKINSEY
McKinsey - management consultancy serving the biggest brands around the world - has commissioned an IAC music practice room at their superlative Jermyn Street offices in central London.
Of all their 86 offices world wide, London is home to one of the largest and most diverse, with employees from more than 45 different nationalities.
The company describes itself as keen to ‘attract, develop, excite and retain exceptional people’, so staff benefits are the tops. Free music and singing lessons have now been added to the list. Learning something new such as how to play a musical instrument, is deemed by experts to be a great de-stresser. Keen not to disturb the work going on elsewhere in office suite, or in neighbouring premises, an IAC’s studio was the answer.
A former ‘smoking room’ was decommissioned for dedication to more healthy pursuits. The compact space now houses a room within a room, constructed using IAC’s patented ‘Moduline’ acoustic building system. The room comprises a floating floor, 4 walls, and inner and outer acoustic doors. The interior has lighting and numerous power points and is also connected to the existing ventilation system.
For added acoustic flexibility within the space, the magnetic, fabric-covered absorptive acoustic wall plaques can be removed as desired, to adjust the internal tuning of the space.

IAC AMERICA PROMOTES ACOUSTICAL ENGINEERING CAREERS
The IAC Group, keen to promote careers in acoustical engineering, has hosted a student visit to our Aero-Acoustic Laboratory in New York.
IAC America’s Aero-Acoustic Laboratory played host to a visit by a group of acoustical engineering students in April. Dr James Abbott, Director of the Cooper Union Audio Lab brought his students along to get some real world exposure to noise control products, testing and manufacturing. While with us they were able to observe how IAC tests our noise control products in accordance with ASTM and ISO standards.
Brian Duffy, IAC America’s President, said: “As a world-leading company, we are keen to promote acoustical engineering both sides of the Atlantic, as a rewarding and satisfying career option for young people. Who knows, perhaps some of these students may one day be part of the next generation of engineers at IAC?”
The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, established in 1859, is among the America’s oldest and most distinguished institutions of higher learning. The college, the legacy of Peter Cooper, occupies a special place in the history of American education. It is the only private, full-scholarship college in the United States dedicated exclusively to preparing students for the professions of art, architecture and engineering.
Across the pond, IAC UK is corporate sponsor of the UK Institute of Acoustics’ biennial ‘Young Persons’ Award for Innovation in Acoustical Engineering’. Now running for the second time, this year’s prize will be awarded in October by Trevor Baylis OBE, world-acclaimed inventor of the wind-up radio. Brian Quarendon, CEO and Group President said: “As a leading acoustics company world wide, we have a corporate responsibility to encourage young people into the industry. Celebrating young people’s ideas is a great way to do this and we are looking forward to introducing Trevor Baylis to some of the burgeoning European talent the industry has to offer.”

IAC’S HOT SUMMER PROTECTION FOR WORLD INTERNET HUB
In response the threats from rising summer temperatures to a key world internet services’ hub in London, IAC is providing a 130M-long Acoustic Louvre Screen for Level 3 Communications’ London Data Centre. Internet disruption is an increasing risk with Europe’s rising summer temperatures.
Level 3’s London Data Centre handles a massive amount of internet traffic, a third of the world’s online communications go through this hub. As well as Internet Protocol (IP) services and broadband transport for many of the world’s largest providers, they also host modem and telecom voice services. The Centre’s ability to guarantee continuity of service is crucial to businesses across Europe and the USA.
Located right in the City of London, noise emissions from chillers and extensive plant rooms serving the building require attenuation in order to prevent noise nuisance to the local residents and businesses. But during the long hot summer of 2006 the chillers broke down for a number of hours, so losing the London Data Centre a huge amount of business. This had been in part due to a solid noise attenuation screen around the chillers. IAC is replacing this existing rooftop screen with an acoustic louvre 130m long and 3m high. This will allow sufficient air flow while still delivering excellent noise attenuation performance.
Garry Wilson is Construction Manager with construction project management leaders, Structure Tone. “This project is part of Phase 3 of a longer-term upgrade of the whole facility. The IAC Acoustic Louvre Screen will enhance overall building performance and help to secure service continuity for Level 3 customers.”

FINANCIAL SERVICES GIANT BENEFITS FROM IAC ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTION
IAC is supplying a bespoke Acoustic Screen to a large industrial facility on an industrial estate in southern England as part of a refurbishment programme to accommodate one of Europe’s financial services giants.
The emergency generator plant required to power the London West Data Centre in the event of a power outage is extensive as are potential noise emissions. In order to protect neighbouring offices and light industrial units on the estate from noise from the building’s power and chiller plant, IAC is to supply and install a steel acoustic screen comprising 1,000 square metres of bespoke 50mm-thick acoustic steel panels. The panels will be supplied to site as 3-metre wide sections in a standard paint finish. IAC will undertake full on-site installation of all the panels including all trim angles and doors. The project is due for completion July 2007.
Ray Athill is Project Manager for Lakesmere, specialist contractor for the Data Centre project. Lakesmere are leaders in the provision of external building envelope packages including roofs, walls and glazing. “IAC were the natural choice for this element of the project given the acoustic requirements and the proven performance that their acoustic screens deliver.”

IAC Aviation has been awarded a $9.9M (€7.3M) contract by one of the world’s leading engine manufacturers. The contract is for the upgrade of one of the OEM’s engine test facilities based in the south west of England.
Keen to maintain their market position the OEM requires this upgrade to enable the facility to accommodate research and development of their latest generation of engine. Substantial changes are necessary to the air pathway, thrust stand and supporting services to ensure the research and development capability, whilst meeting the acoustic and other environmental constraints.
IAC Aviation is the preferred partner of other OEMs world-wide and an approved supplier to Rolls-Royce. The company adds value to the bottom line for MROs by supplying and refurbishing multi-engine test facilities for maximum efficiency and engine throughput.
