Welcome to our latest e-bulletin.
The pace of change today can be overwhelming. Shifts in the world economy and population continue to challenge our innovation to achieve our business goals.
Changing our products to meet the ‘greener’ demands of the global environment reinforces IAC’s commitment to a better world. After all, for 60 years our products and services have been designed to making speech more intelligible, music more enjoyable and reducing community and industrial noise pollution preserving our sense of hearing.
Perhaps one constant in these changing times is our reliance on people: our Associates, our Representatives and Customers who all encourage IAC in making the world a quieter and ‘greener’ place.
Enjoy the stories!

IAC AMERICA ACCEPTED INTO US GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP
Committed to making the world a quieter and greener place, IAC is now a US Green Building Council Member.
As part of our ongoing corporate commitment to respect the global environment and our natural resources, our Noise-Lock® Windows and VisionWall are currently undergoing acoustic testing in their new ‘greener’ formats.
To be considered green, a building must show considerate attention to resource efficiency, indoor air and environmental quality, energy efficiency and water conservation. Of all the materials that can make a building greener, high performance glass is one that is particularly effective. Whether it is to deliver energy savings to your project or to improve the indoor environment, IAC’s Noise-Lock® Windows and VisionWall can assist with those needs.
In order to contribute to today’s ‘green’ movement, we have changed the construction of these window products, by incorporating acoustical fill material with low VOCs, recycled high strength aluminum and recycled steel. Our VisionWall is currently undergoing four rounds of acoustical testing with these changes.
The ‘green building’ movement is a modern-day revolution that began nearly 15 years ago. It has had a tremendous impact on the way buildings are now designed and constructed.
To serve as a rating system of green building practices, The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, known as LEED, was established by the US Green Building Council. Our recent product upgrades are to ensure that our acoustic windows and VisionWall qualify for these ratings that our customers are now increasingly seeking.
“One such recent customer was a Radio Station that wanted to achieve a LEED certification,” says Anita Thompkins, Product Manager. “We were able to work with their architects in the design phase and help them maximize the LEED credit category of indoor environment with the use of our new ‘green’ IAC Noise-Lock® windows.”
To significantly increase the daylight and natural views of the broadcast rooms and performance space we installed two IAC Noise-Lock® Windows in each room. These broadcast rooms were positioned adjacent to one another and some were positioned 20-30 feet deep into the interior of the space, which was formerly quite dark. The result was that each broadcast room was able to receive natural light. This is now a much more pleasant workspace, providing occupants with a connection between indoor space and the outdoors.

NEW ‘GREEN’ PAINT SYSTEM IS ENVIRONMENTAL PLUS POINT
IAC America has just completed installation of a new ‘green’ powder coat system in our paint shop at our Bronx manufacturing facility. Replacing our conventional liquid paint system, the new powder coat system is not only ‘green’ but it delivers a tougher finish and prolongs the good looks of IAC products throughout their lifetime.
Powder coating is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. Electrostatically applied, it is then oven cured to form a ‘skin’ or hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint. Being much thicker than conventional paint means that powder coating does not run or sag. A key benefit is that more consistency of paint finish can be achieved between horizontal and vertical coated surfaces of any product.
The gray epoxy powder primer is performance tested to ASTM D3359, D522, D3363, and D2794 for adhesion, flexibility, hardness and impact resistance. The addition of a top coat is recommended for exterior applications. In addition to the gray primer, all 10 IAC Standard AccuTone2 colors are available in the new powder coat system and all RAL colors are possible, provided there is sufficient lead time.
In line with our environmental policy, the new paint system is ‘green’, emitting zero VOCs and the production process produces much less hazardous waste than conventional liquid coatings.
“The change-over went extremely well,” said Bill Taylor, Director of Operations, “And all of our Product Managers are excited about the results and possibilities for improving all of our products.”

The Minister for Defence of the Government of Brazil, Nelson Jobim, has headed a high level visit to the GEM facility upgraded by IAC Aviation, to see an engine under test and to understand the full benefits of the system to the armed forces.
The facility, based in São Paulo, will be used for testing the Brazilian Navy’s Rolls-Royce GEM engines.
The Minister was accompanied by other high ranking officers from the forces. The group was particularly impressed by the ease of operation and simple user interface of IAC’s latest LabVIEW based Data Acquisition System and facility control system, a key part of the upgrade, which will substantially improve the operational efficiency by reducing the engine testing and data processing time. It offers Rolls-Royce Brazil enormous benefits in supportability, being based upon commercially available hardware and software.
IAC Aviation – a world leader in aero-engine testing - is the UK Ministry of Defence’s approved Design Authority (DA) for Rolls-Royce GEM engine test facilities.
Graham Lavis, IAC Aviation’s Solutions Project Manager, based in the UK, said: “We have extensive experience of delivering such key projects all around the world – but to have such a high ranking visit to São Paulo was an honour and fitting conclusion to a first class, on-time, on budget project.”

NEW - THE ACCUTONE™ ‘C’ CLASS ACOUSTIC WINDOW
IAC America is excited to announce the addition of a new product to our acoustic window product line; the Accutone™ ‘C’ Class Acoustic Window.
This aluminum-framed interior window system exhibits the core strengths of our traditional Noise-Lock® Window, such as superior acoustical performance and cutting edge engineering design but at a lower unit price. It is an attractive economic alternative.
Anita Thompkins is Product Manager for Acoustic Windows. “At IAC America we know that our customers want high acoustical performance but are often under construction budget constraints in the current climate. We also know that products need to contribute to sustainable building design. So we engineered and designed the Accutone™ C Class with all of this in mind. Now our fans do not have to sacrifice superior acoustical performance or sustainable design due to cost. We view the Accutone™ “C” Class window as a welcome alternative to meet your acoustical, construction, and budget needs.”
IAC interior acoustical windows can contribute to the LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) credit category of indoor environments. These windows can significantly increase the daylight and natural views inside a building while at the same time providing noise control. IAC is committed to conserving the global environment and our natural resources.
Now a Member of the US Green Building Council, IAC...is Making the World a Quieter and Greener Place!

IAC NORDIC EXCELS AT THE NEW DANISH RADIO CONCERT HALL
IAC Nordic has excelled in the provision of acoustic control studios and acoustic surfaces at the prestigious New Danish Radio Concert Hall in Copenhagen, in Denmark, Europe.
A Gala Concert was held to mark the formal opening of the building by their monarch, Queen Margrethe II – and the occasion attracted a fanfare of publicity. IAC’s acoustic wall panels featured as a backdrop to many of the photographs and film footage of the Queen that appeared in the nation’s media following the event. Designed by French Architect Jean Novéll, the impressive new-build Concert Hall houses world-class recording and performance spaces, all enhanced by IAC acoustic technology.
IAC Nordic successfully delivered and installed all acoustic surfaces in Studios 2, 3 and 4. In addition they installed all 4 control rooms including that for the massive main Concert Hall – the so-called ‘Studio 1’. During the Gala Concert a number of leading Danish musicians gave concerts in all 4 studios which were broadcast live.
“It was a marvellous occasion,” said Lars Birch Nielsen, Managing Director. “We have been working on the project for 3 years, and it was very satisfying to see and hear the excellent fruits of our labour. Having the Queen admire the acoustic work we have undertaken was a real accolade for IAC.”
